Butt fusion welding is a method used to join two pieces of thermoplastic pipes or sheets together. This technique is commonly employed in the field of plastic pipe systems, particularly for applications in water and gas distribution. The term “butt fusion” refers to the fusion of two pipe ends that are brought together end-to-end, or in a “butt-to-butt” configuration. The butt fusion welding process creates a strong and leak-proof joint because the melted pipe material from both ends fuses together, forming a continuous and homogeneous structure. This method is widely used in the installation of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) pipes, especially in applications where a durable and secure joint is essential, such as in water and gas distribution systems. Butt fusion welding is known for producing joints that are as strong as or even stronger than the original pipe material.
